Security forces arrested female suicide bomber in Bethlehem overnight
Security forces arrested overnight a female member of the Tanzim who was planning to launch a suicide bombing attack in Israel within the next few days, ynet reported. The information was made public when Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Shaul Mofaz visited Israeli troops in the Bethlehem area.

Swedish ambassador apologizes to Sarit Hadad for remarks of broadcaster
Sweden's ambassador to Israel, Anderes Liden, today apologized to singer Sarit Hadad for comments made by a Swedish announcer during the Eurovision Song Contest suggesting that Swedes refrain from voting for Hadad. Liden said he was a big fan of Hadad's and invited her to perform in Sweden.

Eight Egyptians captured on Karine A to be released
The eight Egyptian sailors captured on the Karine A weapons ship in January are soon to be released, Ha'aretz reported. The government decided to release the men because they were not connected to the weapons-smuggling operation.

Sharon denies deal with Labor to exclude Shas from next government
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon today denied media reports that he had worked out a deal with the Labor Party to form a government after the next elections without Shas. Industry and Trade Minister Dalia Itzik (Labor) confirmed that Sharon and Labor leader, Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, had discussed such a pact.

Sharon rejects Mofaz's proposal to exile Arafat
At today's cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon reportedly rebuked Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Shaul Mofaz for his suggestions to exile Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat, and have IDF forces remain in Area A as long as necessary. Sharon warned Mofaz to refrain from making political suggestions. Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer also voiced strong objections to Mofaz's proposals, which were supported by Shin Bet chief Avi Dichter.

NRP ministers: resume Operation Defensive Shield
National Religious Party ministers Effi Eitam and Yitzhak Levy called on the government at today's security cabinet meeting to resume Operation Defensive Shield and expel Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat from the territories. The cabinet did not reach a decision, and will meet again next week, Israel Radio reported.

Italian group: Accept Israel into European Union
A group of politicians from Italy has reportedly suggested accepting Israel into the European Union, in return for an Israeli withdrawal from the territories, ynet reported. The group claims that from cultural and democratic perspectives, Israel is European. Sources in Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs say the move has little chance of success.

Shas and the government are working on a compromise over the proposed emergency economic plan that would enable the party to return to the coalition, Army Radio reported.

IDF imposes curfew on Kalkilya
The IDF this morning imposed a curfew on Kalkilya, and began searching the city for wanted terrorists. Israeli forces have been active in the city in the past few days to ensure that terrorists don't leave to perpetrate attacks in Israel.

Security cabinet meets to discuss renewed terror
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon convened his security cabinet this morning to discuss possbile Israeli reactions to the renewed wave of terrorist attacks. Minister without portfolio Effi Eitam called for the IDF to resume a large scale offensive in the West Bank, claiming that if Operation Defensive Shield had continued, the Palestinian people would have ousted Arafat themselves.

UN Jenin mission delegate: Israel missed opportunity
Japanese UN representative Sadako Ogata, who was a member of the fact-finding mission on events in the Jenin refugee camp, described the disbanded mission to Reuters as a "missed opportunity" for Israel. Ogata said that the mission would not have solved the Mid-East conflict, but would have been a first step toward mutual understanding.

Four Israelis killed in West Bank shooting attacks
A Palestinian terrorist penetrated the community of Itamar, near Nablus, late last night, killing three students at a religious seminary, before being killed by the settlement's security officer. Earlier a Jerusalem resident, Albert Malul, 50, was fatally wounded while traveling with his brother near the settlement of Ofra. Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade claimed responsibility for the attacks.
