Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer this afternoon approved the appointment of Ruth Yaron as IDF Spokesperson. Yaron will take up her position in early July.

Beilin expected to announce new left-wing party
Former Justice Minister Yossi Beilin is expected to announce a new political party to "unite left-wingers," Ha'aretz reported. Beilin will make the announcement at a gathering tonight of supporters. Beilin is also expected to say that he will not participate in the Labor Party convention in July.

Gay activists appeal for support for Jerusalem parade
The High Court of Justice is due to hear an appeal by gay activists against a Jerusalem Municipality decision not to provide funding for a Gay Pride parade scheduled for the capital on Friday.

Sharon: Israel will ensure that Saadat is not released
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said today that Israel will take "all the necessary steps so that it will not be possible to release a person who was involved in murder, who ordered murder, and whose organisation carries out murders to this day." Earlier, a Palestinian military tribunal ordered the release of PFLP head Ahmed Saadat, whom Israel believes ordered the assassination of Tourism Minister Rechavam Ze'evi in October 2001.

Tenet arrives to push Palestinian reforms
CIA Director George Tenet arrived today from Egypt and is expected to push the Palestinians to consolidate their security forces. Tenet will meet with PA Chairman Yasser Arafat on Tuesday.

Jewish graves vandalized in Hebron
A number of graves in the Ashkenazi cemetery near the Tel Rumeida neighborhood of Hebron were vandalized overnight. Police have opened an investigation.

Palestinian court orders release of Ze'evi killer, Ahmed Saadat
The Palestinian High Court today ordered the release of PFLP general secretary Ahmed Saadat, accused by Israel of planning the murder of Tourism Minister Rechavam Ze'evi. The judges claimed that there was no proof to link Saadat, who is currently incarcerated in a Jericho jail under international guard, to the Ze'evi murder.

New Jewish neighborhood under construction in east Jerusalem
Israel Radio reported that work began overnight on a new Jewish residential neighborhood in the Jabel Mukaber neighborhood in east Jerusalem. The project is being headed by former Jerusalem Police Chief Aryeh Amit.

Gunfire at Jewish community in Hebron, no injuries
Palestinians opened fire this morning at children playing on a basketball court in the Jewish community of Hebron. There were no injuries reported.

Shas MK Zeev: Homosexuals will turn Israel into "second Africa"
A Jerusalem Gay Pride parade scheduled for Friday has fueled strong opposition from ultra-orthodox leaders. Shas Knesset Member Nissim Zeev told Israel Radio that homosexuals threatened to turn Israel into an AIDS-infested "second Africa."

Delays expected at Ben Gurion Airport
Due to a dispute with the Israeli Airport Authority, workers are planning a work stoppage likely to cause extensive delays at Ben-Gurion Airport this afternoon. Worker representatives are scheduled to meet later today with Gabi Ofir, the general-director of the Israeli Airport Authority, to attempt to resolve the dispute.

Hamas rejects offer to join PA government
Senior Gaza Hamas leader, Ismael Abu Shanab, announced yesterday that Hamas would not join the Palestinian Authority government. PA Chairman Yasser Arafat offered cabinet posts to four militant groups: Hamas, Islamic Jihad, The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP). All of the groups rejected Arafat's offer.

Explosive device, mortar shells in Gaza - no injuries
An explosive device detonated near the security fence in the Gaza Strip, south of the Kissufim junction this morning. Overnight, three mortar shells were fired at Gush Katif settlements. No injuries were reported in either incident.

Sharon to tell Tenet: no PA reforms with Arafat
CIA Director George Tenet is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon later today to discuss proposed internal reforms in the Palestinian Authority. Sharon is expected to tell Tenet that Israel will not be satisfied with 'cosmetic' reforms, and that for real change to occur the reforms must take place without Arafat's "rule of terror." Tenet is also slated to meet with Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, who believes the Palestinian reform process should include Arafat, and Mossad Chief Ephraim Halevy.

IDF operating in Nablus, Kalkilya
IDF reservist troops entered Kalkilya this morning, conducting searches and arrests of Palestinian militants suspected of terrorist activity. Earlier, Golani units entered the refugee camp of Ain Beit Al Ma'a in Nablus, holding 400 Palestinian men for questioning.

Report: Palestinians plan to use gliders for attacks on Israel
Security sources indicated that Palestinian terror groups based in the Gaza Strip and along the Lebanese-Israeli border, may have attained motorized gliders to launch terror attacks on Israel.
