Terrorists in
the anti-terror coalition By Bob Westbrook September 20, 2001 My country's response to the horrible terrorist action a week ago is very disconcerting. Rather than affirming solidarity with Israel, who has regularly experienced Islamic terror attacks of a similar nature (though not scope), the United States is making insane overtures towards Syria, Iran and the Palestinians for inclusion into the "anti-terror coalition," while specifically excluding Israel. How can that coalition exclude Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East and the one nation who has been the most consistent opponent of terrorism? How can that coalition include Syria, which hosts quite a number of violent, extreme terrorist groups, and Iran, which funds and supports the notorious terrorist organization Hizbullah? How can that coalition include the Palestinians and Arafat, who have been inflicting much grief and terror on innocent Israel civilians? Just last week, Arafat was about to enter into discussions with the terrorist organization Hamas to propose formally joining forces against Israel. The disingenuous doublespeak employed by Colin Powell in his endeavors to patch together his coalition is disturbing. He has sacrificed any semblance of a "just cause" by seeking the inclusion of some of the most notorious sponsors of terror in his so-called "anti-terror coalition." Though most of the US public, craving revenge, will eat up his swaggering braggadocio and earnestly support whatever means he utilizes to pull together his coalition, I find his arrogant treatment of Israel very offensive. When I first heard of the attack, I naively supposed that the United States would realize that their best course would be to join forces with Israel in the common cause of fighting Islamic terror groups. Instead, the US has once again bowed down to the idol of Arab oil, choosing to strong-arm Israel into reviving the extinct "peace process." Suddenly Arafat is once again magically transformed into a peace lover who refutes terrorism, as if his actions in the last year never happened. After the attacks on September 11, Arafat and his apologists desperately scrambled to repackage themselves. Realizing that their tactics of the last year if continued would place them on the wrong side of the new anti-terror efforts, they have suddenly called for a "cease-fire." Powell calls this an encouraging development, disgustingly kowtowing to the blatant hypocrisy of the Palestinians, who until a week ago had enthusiastically embraced terrorism as their means to "liberate Palestine." Equally repulsive have been the efforts of the news activists, the network talking heads, who have embarked on a campaign to convince people of the supposedly benign nature of Islam. While I by no means advocate hostile words or actions against anyone simply because they are Arab or Muslim, I resent the countless efforts by newspersons to mislead the public about the true nature of Islam. Not content to report the events, some news people
have taken upon themselves to shape those events according to their agenda.
More than a few hints have been dropped by news reporters and commentators
to the effect that "if the US had not appeared to the Arab world
to so strongly support Israel, perhaps this would not have happened."
Somehow, amazingly, Regardless of who does or does not support
Israel, she will prevail against all those who hate her. For the United
States, there is one thing to be feared more than terrorist attacks. God
has said, "I will bless those who bless Israel, and curse those who
curse Israel." Israel will prevail, but we turn against her at our
own peril. Views expressed by the author do not necessarily reflect those of israelinsider.
